James Finn — I was raised Catholic, school and everything. As I entered adulthood, I found that the small, welcoming church I attended growing up was at odds with what the Church projected into the larger world — gay rights and equality of women being two sticking points for me. I hear you, in what you say your experience has been.
After I had children, I could no longer attend. Even if a specific parish aligned with my values, it did not represent the Church as a whole.
I found a beautiful Unitarian Universalist Church, whose message is openness and inclusiveness, with no restrictions. THAT is how I want my children to go into the world.
